Anybody with a computer with Windows 98 or above can produce a website. Making a website is very simple. People make websites on lots of diffrent subjects, if you search any word in the English dictionary you will almost always find a match. To make a successful website it needs to be as unique as possible. When you first start you will learn a language called HTML, this is a very simple language. Even people who have never seen a bit of written HTML will be able to understand the code, can you understand this:
<font color="blue">Hi</font>
This basicly means make the word 'hi' blue. Big company often have websites, even small companys can benefit by having a website with useful information about their products and where they are located. Websites now have lots of very 'cool' affects, these affects cannot be created easlily so don't worry if your website does not compare to the Microsoft one. Anyway companies like Microsoft have teams of experianced programers to produce their sites. In time if you stick at making sites you too will be able to create good affects! There is now a range of specialised software that is used to make animations and even whole sites. If you want to do it the easy way I recomend Microsoft Front Page, for really cool animations get Macromedia Flash, Flash can be used to make 3D action games, but it is a bit on the costly site, over £300! But you can make just as 'cool' sites using HTML and bits of other languages which are a bit more complicated. You may ask, why learn HTML first if there are other languages that are better. Well that answer is simple, all websites are made using HTML, it is unavoidable to make a website without using it! Also the more complicated languages are not better, just use them when you need to and they are useful! If you would like to learn more complicated languages learn either CSS or Javascript (js), CSS is much easer than js! If you want to make pages beter looking CSS is the best. If you want to make a page more interactive and useful js is the best! These are not the only langauges there are over 20 different ones you can learn, and don't expect to learn them all, even the top programers don't know them all! What you should do is concentrate on one or two languages in particular. First of all click on the basics link (right), that page will teach you HTML.
